She started her birthday on the roof of the Kadirs' house as we loudly sang happy birthday to her accompanied by the largest firework display yet seen on earth. The dads then sang to her in Arabic. Cool.
Many hours later, we started her official birthday celebrations with breakfast burritos made with crepes, eggs, bacon, ham, green onions, bell peppers and ketchup/salsa/hot sauce. They were surprisingly good. Over breakfast she got to watch a very cute personalized birthday song sung by her Alpine cousins. Since breakfast din't end until well after noon, we decided to move her requested lunch, zucchini pasta, to the next day.
There was then a park and bike riding break to enjoy the sunny day. When they were sufficiently hungry and tired out, it was time to come in and order dinner. She wanted a football night dinner. Normally we have football night on Thursdays, but Jess wanted to move it to her birthday this week. That worked well, allowing Matt and I to go out the next night. We ordered 800pizza, a good traditional Italian pizza and watched the half of the Green Bay game.
Dinner was followed by 6 rounds of Scattegories before presents. Her main gift still isn't here. She helped pick it out so it's not a surprise: a new bike--one with gears and hand brakes. We had hoped it would arrive in time and we would make a family project of bike assembly...maybe next week?

After breakfast, she wanted to bake a cake! She has been planning her birthday since January 2nd, 2013. All the parts have changed drastically except the cake. She has stuck with red velvet, though she did change the frosting color to green recently. She also wanted to use all the different shapes of sprinkles from the sprinkle canister she found at ROSS last summer.
At this point we thought it looked like a hamburger.
Chilly Makenna has been enjoying her infinity scarf she made at craft class the day before.

Then it was time to light candles and make wishes and open presents.
From her family she got bike accessories, namely a big basket and a kickstand. Ooooh. Ahhhh.
She loves her J bag made with yarn she dyed herself from grandma Terry.
And a couple days later, a box came from Bountiful. She opened it last night and wore a new green shirt and stretch pants today! Thanks Grandma Chris!
Even after a late night the night before, she wanted to sleep outside in a tent on her birthday. So the kids set them up in comfort with an air mattress, lots of pillows and blankets and Calvin and Hobbes books.
