Stammtisch and Tuesday Night Football

We had a Monday night football tradition during our 4 years in Vegas.  We would spread a picnic blanket out on the family room floor and eat pizza (usually Papa John's) while watching the opening and first quarter of the Monday night game.  Everyone loved the "Are you ready for some football?!" song.  That was our thing.  It actually started back in Pleasant Grove and we tried, mostly unsuccessfully to continue in Germany, but the technology wasn't quite there yet.  During our time in Ingolstadt, we tried again.  We quickly named a certain Italian place our favorite restaurant.  The prices were almost too good to be true and the pizza was divine.  They made a marvelous French Onion Soup, had a good house salad, and Jess loved a penne with ham and cream sauce.  We went often enough (more than once a week thanks to the pathetic kitchen we had) that we earned ourselves a "Stammtisch".

That was a new word for Matt.  It means a table for regulars--their unofficial table, their SPOT.  We had a spot and the waitress knew our normal order by heart. If someone wanted something different, we had to speak up quick.

So when the NFL season began, Matt would download the Monday night game (thanks NFL ticket), and we would bring his laptop to have a scaled down version of our tradition on Tuesday night.  We kept it quiet so as not to disturb other diners, but they all thought it was grand.

  1. I love the girls' faces in the first picture. Was it a really bad pass? That food sounds really good. How I miss German house salads.
