Monday with Brian and Hilary

Hooray, we had visitors!  Brian and Hilary braved a very long flight direct from Seattle to see Dubai, and us.  I picked them up from the airport Sunday night.  The kids were thrilled to see them and we stayed up for a few hours until Matt got home.  In the morning, Matt went in to work and the kids tried to let them sleep in a bit.  That was more tricky after the furniture guys showed up and started assembling a kitchen table outside their bedroom door.  But at least they could sit down to eat a late breakfast.  Afterwards, we took off for the beach.  We wanted to try parasailing that day, but there was a storm blowing in and all water activities had to be confined to the water (tubing, jet skiing) not air.  That was still okay with us as we are a bunch of beach bums at heart.

The kids buried Brian and afterwards, he decided to try to dig a hole for Jessica.

The girls helped collect shells to decorate our castle of the day.  Makenna is pictured in the background.

Isaac joined in the digging.  Behind Hilary, you can see a glimpse of the stands they are erecting.  Half the huge parking lot has been given over for a motorcross show set to start in a week and a half.  Sponsored by Redbull and Mini.  It made the Martins think of Nurnberg when we stumbled across the mountain bike races through the old town there.  Same sponsors, and similar big mounds of dirt in irregular places.

Jess in the hole.

Everyone had fun carving or caving into the hard wall of sand.

Brian made tons of little towers with the sand taken from the Jess hole.  We put big shells on top and it made me think of a solar panel farm.

We stayed for several hours.  Everyone got wet and sandy and dry and wet and sandy again.  The water was cool and refreshing.  We went out to the cafe on Jumeriah Beach Road for dinner.  Of course, it's really more about the amazing fruity drinks.  Yum.
