Isaac's Broken Arm

If I thought our flurry of doctor visits was over after x-raying Makenna's ankle, I was wrong. The very next morning I was woken up by a phone call from Stephanie who was on the scout campout with Isaac--not a good sign.  Long story short, her was coming home early with a possibly broken arm.  I got the first orthopedic appointment at the Dubai Mall clinic--super nice and we all went together first to Makenna's previously scheduled orthodontist appointment for tightening and then to the mall.  He was x-rayed and then casted.  Green stick fracture.  They started the process quickly, but there was a lot of wait time while getting approval from insurance.  The girls were quit patient.  When we were finally done, they were ravenous.

Let's go eat!!!  They voted on Red Lobster.  I had to cut Isaac's food for him.  His arm was in a lot of pain for at least a week.

Taken when it was just a day old.

The worst part of having a cast was not being able to properly shower.  Bagging him was a nightly chore. And obviously swimming was out.  Guess he'll have to finish that class in the fall.

He also hated not being able to properly play the piano.  He couldn't bend his wrist or stretch for large intervals.  He tried to compensate as best he could and his right hand got better.

After 4 1/2 weeks, it came off.

He still had the little bandaid where they stuck him with painkiller for resetting the bone.  It doesn't show here, but there was a nasty layer of dead skin to scrub off.  Unfortunately, the x-ray did not show enough healing and after the doctor's physical test, there was a choice to be made.  Go back in a cast or cross-your-heart-and-hope-to-die to be a good boy and not do any sports or rough housing for another month and be allowed to wear a splint/brace.  Isaac promised and I gave my okay.  He was very good and still stayed out of the pool.  The biggest incentive was to stay out of the cast and be able to shower without a useless shopping bag arm.  And he did not want to break it again and start from scratch.  So during the day, he wore an increasing hated splint/brace.  A month later, he got x-ray #3 and was given the all clear.  No more braces and he is back to swimming and basketball and normal 15 year old stuff.
