Swim Meet #2, 2010

The Saturday before we drove to Utah, Isaac and Makenna had their second meet.  Makenna was feeling a little under the weather, but still wanted to go.  The meets always start at 8, but we have to be there by 7:20 for warm-ups.  Jumping in an unheated pool at 7:20 might sound crazy, but it was already in the 90's and the spectators were squeezing into the shady spots to wait between their kids' heats.  Makenna was in the very first race of the day, girls 8 and under butterfly.  (I was using the continuous shooting sport mode, so umm, there are lots of pictures to choose from.)
Waiting for the "swimmers, take your marks," command.

Beautiful dive in. . .

Look at those pointed toes!

But unfortunately, her goggles came off.  See the look of annoyance?  This is the only race she didn't take 1st or 2nd.  She still placed 5th out of over 25 girls though.  We put her goggles on under her swim cap for the rest of the meet.  25 Fly: 32:12

Next race for us was Isaac's 50 fly.  He moved up a division this year, 11-12 boys.
He is the one with the orange swim cap.  Time: 51:43

Isaac and Makenna both opted out of the backstroke this week, so we had a longer wait till our next race.  Isaac has never raced backstroke.  He has a hard time going straight.  Makenna did it a couple weeks ago.  Jess spent her time reading her new book over and over.  I was at Barnes and Noble a few days ago working with two other moms to pick all the books for the kids' book groups next year.  I happend upon this one and couldn't pass it up.  It's Kevin Henkes, and super cute, but the characters are not mice!  She loves it, of course.

Here is Makenna on her 25 Breast Stroke: 30:68

Isaac finishing the 50 Breast: 54:16

These next shots are not teasing; they are endearing.  Graceful diving is not Isaac's strength.  But he makes up for it in speed.

Daddy and Jess wait with Makenna before the 25 freestyle.

Makenna's Finish time: 20:89

Isaac about to finish his 50 Freestyle: 41:56

The last race of the day is the 100IM.  Makenna's gender and age was first, as always, and she earned a blue ribbon.  That is a worn out, but happy girl.  Her time was 1:59:03

Isaac will now demonstrate the IM order.

Butterfly,

Backstroke,

Breast Stroke,

Freestyle.  (They chant the order at practice all the time.)
Isaac's time was 1:51:31  He had three 2nd place ribbons and one 3rd in either fly or breast.

Both kids qualified for All Stars in the maximum number of events.  So they have an extra week of practice and another meet on July 31 against the other top JV kids from around the valley.
