Our first rain in Dubai actually happened when Brian and Hilary were visiting. We actually turned on the windshield wipers for a few minutes. Exciting stuff. That was the last precipitation (besides a couple drops the kids claim they felt once) we saw for 8 months. Friday it rained! We woke up to a steady down pour. It cleared by the time we drove to church at 1. But while we were there it started raining again, harder and then there was lightning and thunder which made several kids cry. Especially the ones who have been in Dubai for a few years and have never seen/heard/felt it before. We were LOVING it. We drove a sister home after choir practice and saw lots more from the car. We also saw several ambulances driving with their lights on... don't see that often here, but I bet it was due to inexperienced drivers on wet roads. It really cooled the air down too. It was actually cooler outside than the A/C cooled inside. That is a first. We opened the back doors, felt a little chilly and drank Italian hot chocolate. Ahhhhh.
I don't know where we were going the next day, but the air was SO clear! (I am using a lot of caps, but I really mean it.) I had Isaac take a couple more shots.
Coming home in the rain, Jess looked for any puddles in the road and cheered if I was willing to drive through them to spray the water. She cheered a lot because there was very little traffic, but lots of big puddles. Not as bad as the rainy season in Sicily though. There was one spot in Arabian Ranches about 1/2 mile from home where the puddle was high enough to cover the sidewalk and creep into backyards. And today we heard that Dubai Mall had leaking problems in elevator shafts and on the lower ground level. Oops. It's like Vegas. We saw water leaking from light fixtures in fancy hotels more than once there.

This is just outside of our community and you can see the Burj Khalifa all the way from here! The tip kind of disappears into the sky. You can get an good idea of the height. Those are really tall buildings right next to it.
