Pumpkin Harvest

Makenna picked her pumpkins!  They have been watched over and babied for quite awhile now, but today they were cut off their stems and butchered.  Since Makenna and Kate finished their flag quilts last week, they chose to cut open pumpkins, scoop out the insides and clean the seeds during craft day time.  Each cleaned pumpkin half was covered in foil and roasted for an hour.  The seeds were sprinkled with seasoning and cooked too.

Cutting it up to roast

The seeds did not last long.

When they were cool enough to touch, the girls scooped out the flesh.  We then blended it up in batches.  We used the first 2 cups to make pumpkin soup.  It turned out SO GOOD! I found the recipe online, but will add it to my collection, Ben's too if he wants.  Pumpkin is the main ingredient, but it also has carrot, onion, apple, sage and cream.  yummmmmm.
