Our day started at 9am with me doing Jessica's hair at home and packing all the snacks and cameras required for a day in Abu Dhabi. Jess had done her nails extra fancy in red and black. Makenna helped stick some jewels by her eyes. A little after 10am, Jess and I drove over to Aleaha's house so I could do her hair and jewels to match. I took a few pictures while Glenda finished getting ready before setting off on our drive. I'm so glad we had the afternoon slot and not early morning! We would have had to wake up at 4am. Though there was a small group visiting from Qatar--their first competition--who made a whole weekend of it.
The girls switched to a new gym just 1.5 months ago. The main reason is that their old gym dropped rhymic, which was the only thing keeping us there. The drive was horrible and we did not love the coaches. There is a new GYM less than 10 minutes from us that has a permanent gymnastics area (most other gyms put up and take down equipment in local schools), also an olympic pool, rock climbing and all the normal adult gym stuff. The head coach in Romanian, a little less approachable, but much more professional and easier to understand. After one week, Jess LOVED it and refused to go back. So it was a little awkward seeing some of the old coaching staff at this competition.... It was also reflected in a couple scores, but whatever. I brought my longer lens and tried taking some shots during warm-ups. I did my best to video her routines, but there were a bunch of pillars that really got in the way. Here are some still shots.

When we first got to the gym, they were announcing the awards for level 1 and 2 girls. Their friend Raven got gold for vault in her division!

Floor 8.55 This is the one that hurt the most. She finished with a huge smile, knowing it was the best she had ever done her routine. Blah.
Aleaha has already been awarded gold for vault. There are waiting for Jessica's age and level results. Hers was the last group. The only ones announced afterwards were the two girls in levels by themselves.
Jess also got gold for vault.
We went out for dinner in Abu Dhabi before driving home. We made in back a little after 9 pm. The full day of gymnastics. 
Her wavy hair after she took out the braid-crown. And you can see her fancy nails! ;-)
