The beginning of the end of our time in the US 2015. We had spent the day before mostly packing and weighing suitcases and packing boxes of the stuff that didn't fit in our luggage like cherry chip cake mix and Costco sized seasonings. We woke up early on another cool and cloudy day. We quickly ate, loaded the car, passed around some hugs and had to drive away. The big distraction for the kids was RAIN! It was the most thorough drenching they had experienced in CO this year. We HAD to run the post office and redeem the 14'er sandwiches though. When my mom and I ran into the Post Office to pick up some more boxes, we came back to the car (running to try to stay dry) to find the girls outside getting soaked.... Glad they enjoyed it. Add another load of wash to the to do list.
The mountains had an interesting strip of clouds hovering near their top. The kids tried taking pictures from the moving car, but this is the best we got. We left early to allow for bad traffic, but true to Murphy's law, it was perfect. Turning in the car was a snap and if anything, we got to our gate with too much time to spare. One boring flight later, and we were in Washington. Gathering luggage at the baggage claim and thinking about getting to the hotel, I must admit a BIG part of me was wishing to be back on a plane and on the way home. It turned out to be a wonderful week, but right then, I would rather have been home with Matt.
After we checked in and got situated, we walked a mile to Pike Place for some long awaited clam chowder.
We got dozens of these, starting in DC. On our last full day in CO is when we saw some of the worst footage on the local news about flash floods and cars being swept away. Living on high ground is a good thing.
