Oh what a climb! I wish I had pictures of the exciting part! We started altogether, but David, Isaac and Makenna quickly pulled ahead. That left Kim, Grandma Terry, Jessica and me pulling up the rear. We thought it would be a loverly afternoon activity and it started just like that. BUT...
After about 30 minutes, vicious clouds suddenly rolled in and started sparkling, then raining, then hailing, then all of the above while shooting down lightning all around us. It was deafening and scary. The 4 of us decided to back track a little to find the spot where the incline crosses paths with the Barr Trail halfway. We started hoofing it down the mountain. We tried to call the others to say go down, don't wait for us, but either they couldn't hear the phone over all the thunder or no reception, but they didn't need to get those instructions anyway. They went down faster than us and caught up on the last 1/2 mile. Lucky for them, they had the ponchos and weren't nearly as wet as poor Jess who was soaked through and shivering hard. Grandma Terry slipped in the mud and hit a rock hard getting a huge goose egg lump on her leg as a temporary souvenir. We had to strip Jess down and put on new dry clothes in the car. We went back, took hot showers and drank hot chocolate. What an adventure! Then the next day we had to clean out the inside of the car. We were such a mess.
