He started the day with his favorite breakfast, an omelet feast with sausage AND bacon (the boy likes his protein! too bad it doesn't stick to him). He opened presents at breakfast too. The girls were so excited. They love giving presents. The first bag was heavy and had the rest of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series as well as the first three of Fablehaven. If the girls hadn't pushed the other two bags on him, we might have lost him right there. But he did open the others and found a foam pad for his bed and a box of assorted chocolates. He loved everything! After breakfast, he opened the foam pad, doubled it up on the floor and started in on book two. I don't think he got a lick of school done that day, but he finished the book before football practice.
Because of football, we pushed the birthday dinner and cake back a day. Then he came home from practice and said they were having an emergency practice Friday to hand out jerseys and walk through the plays, just an hour. So we had the dinner a little early before practice. He wanted steak, more meat of course. Matt surprised him by bringing home two lobster tails too. So I'm looking up "how to cook lobster" online, but we ended up following the guy's instructions from Costco. It was amazingly delicious. Isaac had surf 'n turf for his birthday with a side of green beans. Golly. The plan was to do cake after the "short" practice, but of course, we didn't get home till after 9. So it was pushed back another day. Saturday ended up being the hardest physical day of Isaac's young life. Matt had him out at the football season opening jamboree at 8 in the morning (I was at a race) and they had several scrimmages against the other teams in the league. There was a quick lunch break where I picked up the girls, then Isaac and Matt went to Henderson to finish the last two games with the other league. There was supposed to be a game at 1 and at 3. The sun was out but it was very windy. They lost the first game, won the second, then when the one of the teams scheduled for the 4 o'clock game backed out because of the cold wind, our coach said, "sure, we'll step in and play." Our team won again, but both my boys came home beat. After a long hot shower, I sprayed anisceptic on both Isaac's elbows, a knee and his neck. Matt's face and neck were so red. I thought from the sun, but this morning they looked better so probably his skin was chapped from the wind. Isaac was dead tired, but couldn't wait any longer for his cake. It's the coconut recipe he found last year. It has been staring him down every time he has opened the fridge for 3 days. He LOVED it. He had another piece after breakfast this morning. I think it may be his signature birthday cake.
