Makenna started her day out with a big smile and a bit of green in her shirt. She has outgrown all the Ireland shirts that Matt and I brought back. sniff. She is growing up much too fast. She was pleased to find the "Isaac" part of the birthday banner had been replaced with "Makenna". Her breakfast order was an easy one to fill: croissants from Costco (and can you get some extras too?) and a chocolate shake. There was a rainbow of balloons over her chair and some presents on the table. She opened one present at breakfast--the one from Italy that has been teasing her, sitting on the counter, for almost a week. Inside was a fancy mask. She immediately tried it on and surprised me by wearing it for most of the morning. It stays on really well. She practiced piano and worked on her science project wearing it. It must have good visibility because the piano sounded great.
We tried to get some normal school done until lunch. Because as soon as they were done eating, we sang, had cake and Makenna opened the other presents. She wanted Race Cake and helped make it the night before. Some might think it a treat NOT to cook on their birthday, not Makenna. She is quite the little chef. We used one of the last two firework candles on her cake. It will be sad to say good-bye to that German tradition when the use up the last one. I just hope it lasts till Jessica's birthday. I don't think they go bad.
Makenna's cake.
Here they are in the chairs.
Makenna's finished product. She picked the blue to match her dress.
There are flowers on the "thumb" fingers and toes.
For dinner she wanted Salmon and vegetables. We ate rather quickly because Isaac had to leave for football, and Makenna was eager to go to Claire's Boutique. She was completely brave. She thought it hurt a little more than she thought it would, but couldn't help smiling every time she looked in the mirror. She picked out a few other little pairs to wear after the initial 2 months are up. This picture is of her first glance.
Today (8 and one day old) she is wearing her mask off and on and feeling very dramatic with her earrings and new shirt. The sleeves are very good for dancing.
